Circa: 1940 – 1950’s Size: 99″ X 14″ – / 251 cm X 36 cm / KIRGIZ – KYRGYZ TUSH KYIZ wedding Yurt Hanging fragment. It a tradition of Kyrgyz nomadic people living high plains of China-Afghanistan and Tajikistan to make such yurt hangings. It is missing arms coming down on both sides. They use them behind their bedding walls. Very fine silk embroidery on black velvet. Nomadic Turkic people are still keeping their old Shamanist beliefs in high plains of Central Asia. They use cosmic and nature related motifs and designs. It is joined from the center and it has a much older Russian roller printed cotton backing with pomegranates motifs dating 1900’s or earlier.
