Circa: 1870 – 1880 Size: 74″ X 20″ – 188 cm X 51 cm UZBEKISTAN BOKHARA Silk ikat fragment. Woven with silk and cotton mixed in equal amount. Amazing saturated colors from natural dyes. It was before parts of a Chapan. Now it has been put together as pair of panels, surviving to decorate walls. We see, diagonal boteh – paisley motifs. Paisley is believed to develop in eastern cultures from a leaf, evolving into a tree. Others believe that it was flourished under the patronage Mughal Dynasty of North India and its shape symbolizes “tear drop”. In any attribution, it is a feminine beautiful peaceful design. Paisleys are used with several great shade of colors which creates the movement.
