Thermal tests are not always sufficient to stimulate neural tissues in the coronal aspect of the pulpal tissue. There are two types of electric pulp testers: constant current type and constant voltage type. The constant current type maintains a stable current throughout the test, while the constant voltage type maintains a constant voltage.
